About Dr. Nicki
Dr. Nicki Newton is an education consultant who works with schools and districts around the country and Canada on k-8 math curriculum. She has been a teacher for more than 30 years. She has taught elementary school, middle school, and graduate school. Dr Nicki has an Ed.M. and an Ed.D from Teachers, College Columbia University. She is greatly interested in teaching and learning practices around the world and has researched education in Denmark, Guatemala and India. She has written several books, including being a part of the curriculum team for the new McGraw Hill Reveal Math series. She is currently working on a book about imagination, wonder and creativity in schools.
Professional Background:
Dr. Nicki Newton is the author of several books, including Guided Math, Math Workshop, Math Running Records and several others. Dr. Nicki taught as a bilingual teacher in California for ten years. In 2003, she became a Math Consultant. She presents at workshops around the U.S. and Canada as well at regional and national conferences. Dr. Nicki is interested in early childhood math, k-5 math, building powerful thinking mathematicians, developing rich tasks and engagement in the math classroom. She loves research and sees herself as a bridge between what the research says and what we actually do in classrooms.
